Op 4 en 5 oktober speelt het Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, olv Henk Meutgeert, met de New Yorkse gitarist Joe Cohn. - www.jazzorchestra.nl -

Zaterdag 4 oktober om 21:30 in Cinemec in Ede - www.cinemec.nl -

Joe Cohn, de zoon van de legendarische Al Cohn en de zangeres Marylin Moore, ontwikkelde zich tot een talentvol gitarist en speelde met diverse groten uit de swing, waaronder Freddy Cole, Artie Shaw, Zoot Sims, Buddy DeFranco, Al Grey en Harry Allen. Vorg jaar werd hij genomineerd als beste gitarist in Downbeat Poll en werkte hij mee aan New Groove, de laatste CD van vaste pianist Peter Beets.

In deze concerten met het JOC zal de muziek van Al Cohn centraal staan. Tenorsaxofonist Al Cohn, lid van de legendarische 'Four Brothers' uit Woody Herman's 'Second Herd' geldt als een belangrijk componist en arrangeur uit de 'West Coast' jazz. Cohn's composities en arrangementen kenmerken zich door zijn inventieve en harmonische en ritmische benadering en zijn sterke melodische zeggingskracht.

Naast de muziek van Al Cohn zullen stukken gespeeld worden van Gill Evans 'Birth of the Cool'.
