On Saturday 29th October, the Metropole Brass Band from Antwerp, Belgium will present its first studio recording. The CD will be called "Supra Sopra" and it features the band's excellent soprano soloist Steven Devolder. Steven Devolder is one of Belgium's foremost brass musicians. Professionally, he plays trumpet with the Muntschouwburg Orchestra of Brussels and he teaches brass at the conservatoire of Ghent. For years, he played soprano cornet with Brass Band Midden-Brabant. Now he is a member of Metropole Brass, one of Belgium's up-and-coming championship section brass bands. The title track of the CD, "Supra Sopra", is a new composition by Belgian Johan Evenepoel (who also cooperated with the band for recording the CD). The rest of the tracklist consists of some soprano classics, as well as some new pieces and arrangements: Supra Sopra (Evenepoel) Once upon a Time in the West (Morricone/arr. Duncan) Greensleeves (Trad/arr. Bellens) Capriccio (Philip Sparke) 18th Variation (Rachmaninov/arr. Snell) Prayer (Mascagni/arr. Voet) Rhapsody (Robert Eaves) Flowerdale (Sparke) La Califfa (Morricone/arr. Pullin) Concert Galop (Philip Wilby) Caruso (Dalla/arr. Vertommen) Live bonus: Schindler's List (Williams/arr. Smith) The CD will be officially presented at a concert in Harelbeke (Cultural Centre "Het Spoor") on 29/10 (starting at 20h00). For Metropole Brass Band, this concert will also be a try-out for the Belgian Nationals, as they will play both the set piece (The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea) and their own choice piece. |

Jan Houben, ik speel bij de fanfare van Achel (bij Ivan Meylemans), en sinds kort ben ik ook officieel "News Reporter Benelux" voor theMouthPiece.com, een Brits webforum dat zich specifiek richt op de werldwijde brass band scene (Dus, voor al uw Belgische of Nederlandse brass band nieuws, stuur het naar belgium.news@themouthpiece.com of netherlands.news@themouthpiece.com )
Die pint zullen we tegoed houden voor het het BBK in Brussel, stel ik voor...  (Harelbeke is mij jammer genoeg net iets te ver - ik slijt het grootste deel van mijn tijd in Leuven of Noord-Limburg...)
p.s. Het klopt toch wat ik allemaal geschreven heb he? Het meeste heb ik van de Metropole website gehaald... |
